Tottenham Hotspur will look to get out of their misery as they travel to Emirates to face Arsenal on Sunday. The Lilywhites are currently experiencing a mini-crisis, having recently lost against Newcastle United. They have won just one of their three Premier League games this season. But, a win against arch-rivals Arsenal could boost the confidence among the Spurs camp.
Here is how Mauricio Pochettino’s men could lineup in this exciting north London derby this weekend.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Defence
Hugo Lloris is a guaranteed starter in between the sticks for Tottenham. The Frenchman could expect a busy afternoon against a mighty Arsenal attack, boasting the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe.
Pochettino will face a massive problem in the right-back position on Sunday. Kyle Walker-Peters, who has become a first-team regular following the departure of Kieran Trippier, suffered a hamstring injury during the defeat to Newcastle. He is unlikely to feature, along with another right-back option in Juan Foyth.
Serge Aurier, meanwhile, is being considered to be offloaded this summer, meaning we could potentially see Pochettino opt for Moussa Sissoko in the said position. Danny Rose, meanwhile, will be deployed on the opposite flank.
Jan Vertonghen believes he is ready, but the Belgian is set to be heavily assessed prior to this game. It remains unknown whether or not he’ll be fit. But we expect the duo of Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld to retain their place at the heart of the four-man backline.
Midfield
Sissoko shifting to a right-back slot means Eric Dier could be given his first start of the season. The England international was on the bench last weekend. And it won’t be surprising to see him forming the double pivot with Harry Winks on Sunday.
Dier’s inclusion, however, is mainly due to the uncertainty surrounding the fitness of Tanguy Ndombele. The Frenchman has been suffering from a hamstring problem and is unlikely to feature against Arsenal.
Attack
Much like Ndombele, Dele Alli is doubtful for this game. The England international will face a late assessment after initially returning to training last weekend. We do expect him to return to the starting lineup, operating as the lone attacking midfielder.
Alli will be supported by the wide duo of Son Heung-Min and Christian Eriksen, though the latter will shift into a relatively central role, with Son as well, joining the central striker. And finally, the Tottenham attack will be spearheaded by Harry Kane, who will be desperate to get into scoring form following a terrible start to the campaign.
