Arsenal will travel to Merseyside to clash heads with Liverpool on Saturday evening hoping to fare much better than their last visit to Anfield when they suffered a humiliating 5-1 defeat. The Gunners come into this game at the back of two successive wins versus Newcastle United and Burnley respectively.
Unai Emery might choose to stick with his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation with Nicolas Pepe expected to feature off the Arsenal bench once again this weekend.
4-2-3-1 Arsenal Predicted Lineup To Face Liverpool
Defence
Bernd Leno will lineup in between the sticks for the North London outfit after shipping in just one goal in two league matches thus far. The centre-back pair of Sokratis Papastathopoulos and David Luiz will operate at the heart of the Arsenal backline. Both defenders will try to neutralise the threat of Roberto Firmino inside their own penalty box. Ainsley Maitland-Niles might get the nod to start as the right-back while Nacho Monreal looks to put in a dominant shift down the left flank.
Emery’s side conceded five goals in their last outing at Anfield in the 2018-19 campaign. Thus, the Gunners need to make sure that they stay in the contest early on and try to catch Liverpool off-guard on the counter this weekend. Both Kieran Tierney and Hector Bellerin will miss out on this encounter against Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Midfield
Joe Willock and Matteo Guendouzi will lineup as the anchormen in midfield as they attempt to breakdown a lot of the Liverpool attacks on Saturday. The talented trio of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Dani Ceballos and Reiss Nelson will play just ahead of them as part of the Gunners attack. All three players will be responsible for creating some decent chances going forward and are expected to cause a lot of problems for the Reds backline this weekend.
Mesut Ozil is a doubt for this game and will be in a race against time to be fit and available for selection.
Attack
Alexandre Lacazette will spearhead the Arsenal attack up top. The French striker needs to work his socks off if he wants to come out on top against a shaky Liverpool defence this weekend. Nicolas Pepe will have to settle for a spot on Emery’s bench but might get an opportunity to make an impact in the second half if required.
