According to the latest reports from Spain as cited by the Express, Neymar is expected to leave Paris Saint Germain this summer to return to Spain. Reports add that the Brazilian attacker has conveyed his wishes to PSG and said that he wants to return to Barcelona. Neymar is reportedly unhappy with the quality of the Ligue 1 after making a big-money move just two years back.
Barcelona have reportedly made multiple offers for the star player, and they have offered a list of 6 players for PSG to choose from to facilitate a player plus cash deal. However, PSG wants £160m upfront in cash. Real Madrid are also said to be interested, and their offer of £110m plus Luka Modric is something which PSG were considering.
The Catalan giants are said to be desperate, and they have reportedly asked Neymar to announce publicly that he wants a Barcelona move so that it can deter negotiations with Real Madrid.
Right call from Valverde to go after Neymar?
Neymar’s departure to PSG came all of a sudden, and it was clear that it was the money which motivated that move. The Brazilian’s record with the La Liga giants is staggering as he managed 105 goals and 76 assists in just 186 appearances. The 27-year-old was part of the best attacking trio of its time with Suarez and Messi, and they used to blow away teams for fun for the most parts.
There is no doubt that Barcelona will be elevated with the signing of Neymar again. Ousmane Dembele and Phillipe Coutinho’s signing have been underwhelming, and both of them have not managed to establish themselves in the first team. With Antoine Griezmann now at Barcelona, the Blaugrana can once again have the most threatening attacking trio in world football if Neymar decides to head back to Barcelona.
Should Valverde pay £160m?
Barcelona have already spent the big bucks to land Griezmann this summer so the club might be slightly sceptical about paying upwards of £150m for a new player. We think that Barcelona can tempt PSG by using someone like Phillipe Coutinho in a cash plus player deal.
The former Liverpool man has found it hard to get going at Barcelona, and he was linked with various loan moves to Premier League clubs this summer. Coutinho plus £80-90m could do the trick, and there is no doubt that Neymar will be an upgrade over his fellow countryman. Barcelona still have few weeks to set the plan in motion, and they would desperately want to gain Champions League glory this season.
