According to a recent report by the Turkish news outlet Sabah, Everton are interested in securing the signature of Galatasaray forward Mbaye Diagne. The same source has revealed that the Toffees are set to follow up on their interest by launching a concrete bid for the Senegalese frontman.
Diagne’s Incredible Form In The Turkish Top-Flight
The Dakar-born talent had an outstanding campaign for Galatasaray after he put in numerous goal-scoring displays in the Turkish Super Lig last season. Diagne featured in 36 matches for the Turkish giants in the previous term, finding the back of the net on 31 occasions while creating four assists across all competitions.
The 27-year-old has previously played for clubs such as Juventus in Italy and AC Ajaccio in France before going on to make a name for himself in Turkish football. He has also represented Senegal in nine international matches so far but is yet to open his goal-scoring account for his nation.
At 27, Diagne is currently playing at his prime which the Toffees could look to benefit from over the next few seasons. However, he has still not proven his worth outside Turkey, which makes him a gamble for the Merseyside outfit.
What Will The Senegal International Bring To Goodison Park?
Diagne is a powerhouse inside the opposition penalty box as he has remarkable strength which enables him to hold the ball up well for his team. The Galatasaray forward is an ideal target man as he can win a lot of aerial duels while up against the opposition defenders. The Senegalese prospect is a potent goal-threat from set-pieces but can sometimes be a lonely figure up top when his side do not have possession of the ball.
The 27-year-old striker can position himself well in the final third, and his shots often pack a lot of power. However, Diagne doesn’t possess the pace to cause problems for the opposition in the offensive end of the field. Hence, he can be a liability at times as he is not a free-flowing option upfront.
The Toffees should only recruit Diagne if they are planning to use him to bolster their squad ahead of the new campaign. The Turkish Super Lig sensation might not be the best fit for Marco Silva’s first-team, but he is a prolific goal-scorer which could help Everton challenge for a top 6 place in the coming years.
