Everton faced off against Lincoln City at the Sincil Bank earlier tonight looking to book a place in the third round of the League Cup. The Toffees made a sloppy start to the game as they conceded a goal in the 1st minute when Harry Anderson scored from close range. The Merseyside outfit found a way back into the contest in the 36th minute via Lucas Digne’s goal.
The visitors got themselves ahead through Gylfi Sigurdsson’s penalty in the 59th minute. However, the Imps refused to give up without a fight and came up with an equaliser just eleven minutes later. Marco Silva made a couple of substitutions to add some fresh energy to his frontline, and it worked wonders as the Toffees scored again courtesy of Alex Iwobi’s header in the 81st minute. Richarlison killed the game off with his header in the dying embers of the encounter to cap off a fine 4-2 win for Everton.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player performed during the match against Lincoln City.
GK: Jordan Pickford – 6.5/10
The English goalie couldn’t do much about the early setback when the home side scored after 18 seconds. However, he distributed the ball accurately from the back which helped his team pull off a memorable comeback in the second half.
RB: Djibril Sidibe – 5.5/10
The Everton new signing was a decent outlet down the right flank but lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
CB: Michael Keane – 6/10
It was a mixed performance from the English defender. He was caught off-guard at times while defending inside his own half. However, Keane was a potent goal-threat during dead-ball situations in the opposition half.
CB: Mason Holgate – 6/10
He found it difficult to cope with the threat of the Lincoln City attackers but won a lot of headers during the contest to see out a fine, come-from-behind win for the Toffees.
LB: Lucas Digne – 9/10
The French defender was a lethal attacking force down the left-wing. He scored in the first half with a brilliant freekick from 30 yards out. He also managed to get an assist late in the game when he found Richarlison who made no mistake from close range.
CM: Morgan Schneiderlin – 7/10
The former Manchester United midfielder was responsible for earning the penalty kick which gave Everton the all-important lead in the contest. He got better as the game wore on and helped his team pull off a fantastic comeback in the second half.
CM: Fabian Delph – 7.5/10
The ex-Aston Villa midfield ace hardly gave away the ball and created some decent openings for his teammates going forward.
RM: Richarlison – 7/10
The Brazilian winger scored in the 88th minute to kill off the contest. However, he failed to make a positive impact in the final third and looked like a player out of form.
CAM: Gylfi Sigurdsson – 6/10
The Iceland international kept his calm to slot home the penalty in the 59th minute. However, he didn’t have a good game otherwise.
LM: Alex Iwobi – 8/10
He made some driving runs down the left flank and was always willing to take on his marker and beat them on the dribble. Iwobi scored a deserved goal in the 81st minute, which will give him a lot of confidence heading forward.
ST: Moise Kean – 7/10
The Toffees new boy showed his brilliance at times when he ran with the ball using his pace and power. However, he was starved of goal-scoring opportunities before getting substituted in the second half.
Substitutes:
ST: Cenk Tosun – 7/10
The Turkish striker settled into the game quickly and has an assist to show for his efforts.
ST: Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 6/10
He brought some fresh energy to the Everton attack.
RM: Theo Walcott – N/A
The English speedster didn’t have enough time to influence the game.
