According to a recent report by De Telegraaf, Chelsea youngster Juan Castillo could be on his way to sealing a loan move back to AFC Ajax this summer. The same source has also claimed that the deal includes an option for the Dutch giants to buy the player permanently next summer. Castillo recently penned a new deal to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2022.
Hence, it is a surprise to see the Pensioners give up on him when Frank Lampard needs more players from his youth ranks to shine during the club’s transfer ban. At the same time, Castillo needs more first-team experience if he wants to become a world-class left-back in European football.
Castillo’s Rise Through Chelsea’s Youth System
Hence, a return to Amsterdam could see him break out as a first-team starter under Erik ten Hag’s stewardship at the Johan Cruijff ArenA. The 19-year-old is yet to make a senior appearance for the Pensioners but has been a crucial member of their youth sides over the past few years.
The Dutch defender had scored three goals and grabbed ten assists in 46 matches for the Chelsea U-18 side before he went on to play at the Under-23 level. He has also found the back of the net three times and provided eight assists in 40 appearances for the Pensioners U-23 team thus far.
What Does The Dutch Left-Back Offer On The Pitch?
Castillo is moderately paced and can make some driving runs down the left flank. The Dutch defensive ace can also link up play well with others around him in the opposition half. However, he can be a bit vulnerable in defence, so he needs to read the game well to cope with his defensive frailties.
Castillo Moving To Ajax On Loan: Good Move For All Parties?
Letting Castillo go out on loan to Ajax makes sense for both clubs. However, the Pensioners could regret adding the option to let him leave permanently next summer as he is a prospect who has incredible potential and can become a future star in English football.
The Dutch sensation will also benefit from playing regular football for Ajax this season and could be involved in their UEFA Champions League squad as well. Thus, it is a deal that will benefit everyone involved.
