According to a recent report by the Daily Mirror, Barcelona captain Lionel Messi is set to make a comeback from his latest injury setback against Real Betis on Sunday. The Argentine superstar did not feature versus Athletic Bilbao last week after he sustained a calf injury. However, the Daily Mirror claims that Messi is back in full training and could now be ready to make a return in Barca’s league encounter against Rubi’s men at the Nou Camp.
The Catalans put in a disheartening display when they clashed heads with Bilbao in the opening weekend of the new La Liga season. Ernesto Valverde struggled to cope with Messi’s absence as they suffered a 1-0 defeat away at San Mamés Stadium.
Messi’s Spectatlar Season At Catalunya
The Argentine international was instrumental behind Barca’s domestic success in the previous campaign. A lot will be expected of him once again when he lines up for the Spanish giants this season.
Messi is currently the most prolific goal-getter in European football as evidenced by his remarkable numbers in the last term. The 32-year-old netted 51 goals and grabbed 22 assists in 50 appearances for Barca across all competitions.
What Does The Argentine Sensation Offer On The Pitch?
Messi will go down in history as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, player of all time. The South American legend averages a goal every game which goes to show how influential he can be on the pitch for the Catalans. The Argentine winger is blessed with incredible pace and stellar ball-control which allows him to make some dangerous dribbles in the offensive end of the field.
He can beat his marker in numerous ways and is an unforgiving finisher inside the opposition penalty box. It is no wonder that Barca struggled to see off Bilbao’s challenge without Messi’s services last week.
Messi’s Comeback From Injury: Big Boost For the Catalan Outfit?
However, with the La Liga veteran set to make a comeback this weekend, Valverde will count his lucky stars as the Barca boss is currently living on borrowed time at the Nou Camp. The Catalans head coach is under a lot of pressure and is in dire need of a league win so that his side can maintain their dominance in the Spanish top-flight. Therefore, Messi’s return will be a massive boost for him and his chances of leading Barca to their first victory of this La Liga campaign this weekend.
