Rangers hosted Midtjylland in the second leg of the Europa League qualifiers after winning the first leg 4-2. The home team made light work of their Danish opponents as they ran away 3-1 winners on the night.
Midtjylland looked good at the start, but Rangers soon settled in and started dominating. Alfredo Morelos opened the scoring after a brilliant pass by Arfield which allowed Ojo to get into space. The three again combined for the second goal and Arfield again released Morelos after some brilliant work. The Colombian provided the assist to Ojo this time who scored from close quarters.
Rangers got another one just after half time as the pair of Ojo and Morelos combined again. The Danish side pulled one back, but it was only a consolation as Rangers romped home to a 7-3 aggregate victory.
Here is how Gerrard’s men fared on the night where they booked their place for the Europa League playoffs.
Allan McGregor 7
Had to make some decent saves and did his job well in goal.
Nikola Katic 6.5
Took care of whatever came his way. However, the Croatian was sometimes passive in defence, which allowed Midtjylland to create some good moments.
Connor Goldson 6
Was caught ball watching on occasions when a few low crosses came in. Looks solid but there are some lapses in concentration once in a while.
James Tavernier 7
Wasn’t involved as much as he usually is while going forward but had some good moments. Did his defensive duties well.
Jon Flanagan 7
Reliable and steady performance from the former Liverpool man. Making a claim for the regular left-back spot.
Steven Davis 7.5
Dictated play from deep areas as he moved the ball well. Acts a like glue while building up attacks from the back.
Glen Kamara 7
Worked hard and provided defensive cover as well as linking up play well.
Ryan Jack 7.5
Has been consistently good and tonight was nothing different. Made some crucial blocks and interceptions and shielded the ball well when he was in possession.
Scott Arfield 8.5
Didn’t have an assist or goal to his name for the first two goals but played a big role. Looked energetic, and his vision and passing range was second to none.
Sheyi Ojo 8
The Liverpool loanee looked sharp with his movements and runs. Got two assists and a goal. Has settled in really well.
Alfredo Morelos 8
Finished well for the goal and set up Ojo for the second. The understanding between him and Ojo looks impressive. Got another one in the second half which was again set up by Ojo. Could have had a hattrick, but another top performance from the Colombian.
Substitutes
Greg Docherty 5
Provided fresh legs in midfield and closed the game out.
Jordan Jones 6.5
Made some darting run and took a few long-range attempts.
Jermain Defoe N/A
Didn’t play enough to warrant a rating
