Most of Celtic’s transfer dealings have been for a defender so far, and they are closing in (Football Scotland) on another one in the form of Hatem Abd Elhamed. However, the club should also look to bolster their attacking options after the likes of Oliver Burke and Timothy Weah (who played a role in the second half of the last campaign) departed from the club.
One player they can consider is Leeds United’s striker Kemar Roofe. Recently Roofe’s name was linked with Rangers as reports from the Express came out that the Bears will try to sign the Englishman if Alfredo Morelos is sold in the summer. Celtic should look to rival for the striker’s signature, and various reports came out that the 26-year-old could be available for as low as £5m.
The striker is currently in the final year of his contract at Leeds United, and he is yet to commit to a new deal. Therefore we think that he is up for grabs and Celtic should be all over this English forward.
Why Celtic need a striker?
The Bhoys have Odsonne Edouard as their talismanic man, and the Frenchman has done well when he has been available. However, we saw last season that Edouard could be prone to injuries as he missed quite a few games. Leigh Griffiths is making a comeback this season after taking a break from football. However, we are not too optimistic about him being the main man for the Hoops when Edouard is unavailable.
It will also be interesting to see how Griffiths will go about his business after a break like that. Apart from that, Celtic have Vakoun Issouf Bayo who was signed in January this year. The striker is yet to be tested and the fact that he failed to get into matchday squad last season, suggests that he is still far off from first-team football. Therefore there is a definite need for the club to sign a centre forward, and Roofe can be a plausible option to have.
Why will Roofe be a top-class signing?
The Englishman is a winger turned centre forward who was Leeds United’s top scorer last season. Blessed with decent pace, Roofe is known for his sharp movement in the attacking third. He can finish chances as well when presented with them.
Moreover, he is a versatile option as he can play as an attacking midfielder or as a winger as well. The Leeds man is also known for his impressive work rate, and we think that he will be a top signing for the Hoops.
