According to a recent report by the Daily Mirror, West Ham United have made a last-ditch move to lure Celta de Vigo striker Maxi Gomez to the London Stadium this summer. The same source has also claimed that the Hammers have tabled a bid around £36m which should be enough to convince the Spanish side to part ways with their prized asset.
The Mirror has also added that the East London outfit are willing to offer Gomez a £100,000-a-week contract, which is almost double the wages he would get at Valencia to try and convince him to move to England.
Gomez’s Eye-Catching Season In La Liga
The Uruguay international enjoyed a magnificent season with Celta after he put in a string of goal-scoring displays for them in the Spanish top-flight. Gomez scored 13 goals and grabbed five assists in 36 matches for the La Liga outfit in the previous campaign across multiple competitions. The 22-year-old has built a productive partnership with former Liverpool striker Iago Aspas at the Balaídos as the dynamic duo managed to work together and save their club from relegation last season.
Gomez has also played in 12 international matches for Uruguay and has found the back of the net twice for them so far. At 22, the South American talent is about to embark upon the prime years of his playing career which West Ham could look to benefit from over the next few campaigns.
What Will The Ex-Defensor Prospect Bring To The London Stadium?
Gomez can be an unforgiving presence inside the opposition penalty area as he tends to be clinical in front of goal. He has also developed a knack for finding space in dangerous positions which explains why he scores so many goals for Celta in the top tier of Spain.
The Uruguayan striker can dominate his marker in the air, which allows him to bring others into play in the opposition half. However, one can argue whether he would be able to withstand the physical toll of English football if he decides to move to East London this summer.
Will Gomez Be A Good Choice For Pellegrini?
Gomez has all the skillset required to be a world-class forward as long as he can continue to mature as a player. If Pellegrini intends to make him his first-choice striker for next season, then there is no doubt that the South American sensation would flourish in the Premier League for the Hammers. Thus, he will be an excellent choice for West Ham as he would be able to add a lot of goals to Pellegrini’s attack at the English capital.
