Ryan Kent is said to be the final piece of the jigsaw for Rangers in the transfer market. After his impressive loan spell, there is no doubt that everyone associated with the Gers would want to have the Liverpool winger back again on loan. However, the latest report from the Daily Record is not all positive news for the Bears faithful.
Update on Kent
Reports say that the winger has made a considerable impression on the Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in the two preseason friendlies especially in the win against Bradford where Kent played a part in all the three goals which Liverpool scored.
The winger is also set to be part of Liverpool’s pre-season tour to the USA. A ‘real opportunity’ is said to have been presented to him as Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are absent, and even Xherdan Shaqiri is still injured. Therefore the German manager will likely get a good look at Kent in the preseasons, and if he manages to have the same impact as he had against Bradford, then things are not looking great for Rangers at the moment.
The report does mention that Rangers are first in line to get his signature, but we feel that Rangers might miss out now with Premier League football starting in less than a month. Sadio Mane has not had a break yet even after the season ended as his side Senegal reached the semi-finals of the AFCON.
It seems to us that Liverpool’s front three could be missing in action against Norwich on 8th of August as the Reds will likely hand a few weeks off to the players involved in national duties. Roberto Firmino was also part of the winning Brazil team in the Copa America.
Do Rangers need to buy someone else if they miss out on Kent?
We think that Gerrard had already thought about this scenario and that is why he went ahead with the signing of Sheyi Ojo even after securing the likes of Jordan Jones and Jake Hastie earlier. Kent’s signing should only be seen as a bonus now by the Gers faithful. We don’t see the need for Rangers to go after another wide option as they have plenty of players who can play in that role. Glenn Middleton’s loan move to Doncaster recently collapsed so as of now, he is still a Rangers player.
Nevertheless, Kent is a potential game-changer, and he showed that in big games against Celtic last season. Rangers are set to have a make or break campaign under Gerrard as they try to stop Celtic’s domination in Scottish football and for that, he would need players who can take the game by the scruff of the neck when the going gets tough.
