Rangers might have acquired some crucial players already in this window, but there is one player on every fan’s lip they want at Ibrox. It’s Ryan Kent, and it is no surprise to see the Gers fans and Gerrard wanting him after the last season. Recently, it was reported that Rangers’ move for Kent could take up time as Jurgen Klopp wants to see him from close quarters in the preseason.
Bad news for the Bears faithful
However, now it is believed (Daily Record) that the Glaswegian giants might have to wait further as Liverpool attackers Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will be handed extended holidays after their national commitments. The trio had to join their national team after the Champions League triumph straightaway as Brazil prepared for Copa America whereas Salah and Mane joined their respective teams for the Africa Cup of nations.
This can mean that the front three can miss the first game of the season against Norwich. Liverpool are likely to rely on their backup options like Divock Origi, Xherdan Shaqiri, Rhian Brewster or midfielder Adam Lallana. Ryan Kent might not be in contention to get a start, but Klopp could keep him on the bench for the first game of the new Premier League season.
Therefore Rangers’ pursuit for Kent could stretch until mid-August with Liverpool playing Norwich on the 10th of August.
What now for Rangers?
The ball is in Liverpool’s court here, and it remains to be seen whether Gerrard would be able to get his man. Recently the manager insisted that Kent needs to want a move to Ibrox as badly as they want him. With English clubs also in the mix, the Gers aren’t going to find it straightforward to sign the winger.
Moreover, if a Premier League club approaches Liverpool for a loan move for Kent, then we feel that the club might sanction it as Klopp would probably like to see how Kent goes about his business in the English top flight. Maybe as Gerrard mentioned, Kent needs to create a bit of noise with Liverpool that he specifically wants a move to Rangers. The winger won young player of the season award and is an absolute fan favourite in one part of Glasgow.
Moreover, he will be guaranteed game time at Ibrox, which should be a vital factor for Liverpool as well. As things stand, it’s tough to call which way things might go. Hopefully, with Gerrard at the helm at Rangers, he can use his connections with the Liverpool hierarchy to get the Kent deal over the line.
