According to Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur are poised to complete deals to sign Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon this week. The Lilywhites are ready to fork out a combined total of £80 million to attain the services of these two players as Mauricio Pochettino looks to strengthen his squad further. But how will they fit into the Spurs team individually?
Lo Celso: An ideal replacement for Eriksen?
Christian Eriksen has been linked with a move away from North London throughout this summer. And with just over a week left till the transfer window slams shut, the Dane’s future is still yet to be resolved. However, the addition of Lo Celso could signal the potential departure of the playmaker.
The Argentine ace, in many ways, can be considered as a like for like replacement for Eriksen. But, the fact he usually likes to operate in central midfield means he can combine well with star recruit Tanguy Ndombele. This, in turn, will solidify Tottenham’s midfield unit that was decimated by the departure of Mousa Dembele earlier this year.
Furthermore, the Real Betis star can be deployed in the number ten slot as well as the wide attacking position. That means he will make it easier for Pochettino to continue his rotation policy. This would enable the manager to accomodate the Argentine ace in his starting lineup quite conveniently.
Sessegnon: One for the future?
It’s unlikely Sessegnon will be considered as a vital part of the Tottenham first-team upon his potential arrival in North London. However, that could actually benefit the youngster, who, at the age of 19, has time on his side. He can, therefore, slowly integrate himself to the higher level of football and become an asset for the club in the near future.
From a tactical aspect, Sessegnon will provide cover for Ben Davies in the left-back slot. But, the Fulham starlet is mainly a wide-attacker, which should nullify Tottenham’s need for a natural winger. Pochettino’s proficiency in nurturing English talents is already well documented. And Sessegnon, in that regard, could become the next player to succeed under the tutelage of the Argentine mastermind.
However, the Lilywhites must act swiftly if they are to secure the services of these two players. Both the stars will undoubtedly enhance the overall quality of the side and make Spurs a strong contender for the Premier League title this upcoming season.
