According to a recent report by Sky Sports, Atletico Madrid have offered Tottenham Hotspur an opportunity to land Angel Correa in exchange for Kieran Trippier this summer. The same source has claimed that the two clubs are close to agreeing on a deal before the weekend. However, it is still unclear whether Spurs want to bring Correa to North London in this off-season (via Sky Sports).
It is worth noting that Mauricio Pochettino might fancy recruiting his fellow countryman as he could work closely on improving Correa’s game in the coming years.
Correa’s Rise To The Top Of Spanish Football
The 24-year-old talent came through the youth ranks of San Lorenzo in Argentina before he made an ambitious move to Atletico Madrid in the winter transfer period of 2015. Since his switch to the Spanish capital, the Rosario born prospect has made a total of 130 appearances in the La Liga, scoring 20 goals while grabbing 18 assists so far.
Correa was often deployed on the right-wing last season even though he can play as an out and out centre-forward up top. The La Liga prospect has also earned 12 international caps for Argentina and has scored two goals for them until now.
What Does The South American Sensation Offer On The Pitch?
Correa is very quick and agile in the opposition half and can complete some dangerous dribbles to create openings for his teammates. He is not a prolific goal-scorer by any means, but what he lacks in productivity, he makes up for it by being a menace inside the opposition half.
The Argentine wide player needs to add more goals to his game if he wants to succeed in English football. However, at 24, he is currently playing at his prime, which Spurs could look to benefit from over the next few campaigns.
Will Correa Be A Decent Option For Spurs?
The addition of a pacey winger like Correa will undoubtedly bolster Mauricio Pochettino’s attacking options at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He will not only add more depth to the Spurs squad but will also increase competition for places in Pochettino’s starting XI.
There is no doubt that Correa will be an ideal back-up for Harry Kane, but he is not good enough to compete with the English centre-forward. Thus, his best chance to ensure regular football will be to battle for a spot on the flanks with the likes of Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura.
