According to a recent report by Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in bringing Napoli full-back Elseid Hysaj to North London during this summer transfer period. The same source has also mentioned that Spurs are desperately looking to recruit a new right-back following Kieran Trippier’s departure to join Atletico Madrid this summer.
Hysaj’s Fruitful Spell In Italian Football
The Albania international has enjoyed a productive few years at Napoli since his move from Empoli in the summer of 2015. He has made a total of 170 appearances for the Naples outfit with just five assists to his name thus far.
Hysaj had a solid season in the Serie A after he put in some commanding displays for Carlo Ancelotti’s side in the previous campaign. He featured in 35 matches for the Italian giants in the last term, creating two assists across all competitions.
There is no denying the fact that the 25-year-old has struggled to be productive going forward. However, Hysaj has made up for his offensive shortcomings by defending well at the back. The Albanian defensive ace made an average of 1.5 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 1.6 clearances per game in the Italian top-flight (stats via whoscored). The Shkoder-born full-back has also represented Albania in 47 international matches thus far.
What Does The Italian Defender Offer On The Pitch?
Hysaj will fit in well at Spurs as he has decent pace which allows him to put in a tireless shift at right-back. The Albanian sensation hardly gets beaten on the dribble and can make some essential interceptions for his team. He is defensively sound but needs to be more productive in the opposition half.
Will Hysaj Be A Good Fit At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium?
Recruiting an experienced right-back like Hysaj will undoubtedly bolster Mauricio Pochettino’s defensive options at North London next season. He will not only be a decent replacement for Trippier but will also give Serge Aurier a run for his money for a place in the Tottenham first-team.
Hysaj will improve the overall depth of the Spurs squad so that they can compete on all fronts in the coming years. All in all, the Albania international will be an excellent fit for Pochettino’s brand of football at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
