Tottenham Hotspur have announced on their official website that both Ben Davis and Harry Winks have put pen to paper on new long-term contracts with the North London club. Spurs have also disclosed that both players have extended their respective deals which will see them stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until the summer of 2024 (via tottenhamhotspur.com).
Davies’ Integral Role At Spurs Last Season
Davies was a sporadic feature in Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team last season as he was often rotated with Danny Rose for the left-back position. However, the Welsh talent kept his head down and put in some solid displays for Spurs in the previous campaign.
The 26-year-old featured in 40 matches for Spurs and had one assist to his name across all competitions. On the defensive end, he made an average of 2.1 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 2.3 clearances per game in the Premier League last season (stats via whoscored).
Winks Enjoying His Football At North London
On the other hand, Winks was able to establish himself in the Tottenham first-team as he put some commanding displays in midfield under Pochettino’s tutelage in the last term. He got plenty of game time on the pitch over the past couple of years and is currently in line to fight with Eric Dier and Moussa Sissoko for a first-team berth alongside Tanguy Ndombele in Pochettino’s midfield.
The 23-year-old made 41 appearances for Spurs last season while scoring one goal in the process. He has also earned three international caps for Gareth Southgate’s England national team so far.
Keeping The Talented Pair At Tottenham: Clever Move By Pochettino?
Retaining the dynamic duo of Davies and Winks could turn out to be a shrewd move for Spurs in the long-run. Both players are talented and have the potential to win trophies with Tottenham as long as they can continue improving their respective games on the field.
Pochettino is looking to rebuild his Spurs squad in this ongoing summer transfer window so the fact that the Argentine manager has shown confidence in Davies and Winks will undoubtedly spur them on to work towards establishing a brighter future at the North London club.
No doubt tying them up on new, long-term deals has been a clever move by Spurs as Pochettino can now concentrate on developing them into world-class talents in the coming years which would ensure Tottenham will be able to reap the rewards on the field or count the profits off it.
