According to a recent report by the Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur are confident about their chances of agreeing on a deal to bring Fulham youngster Ryan Sessegnon to North London this summer. The same source has also mentioned that Spurs are prepared to cough up £25m for the Cottagers teenager who has got a year remaining on his current contract at Craven Cottage.
Ryan Sessegnon’s Remarkable Rise To The Top Of English Football
The English starlet is a product of Fulham’s youth system and managed to break out as a first-team starter back in 2016 when he was just 16 years old. Sessegnon had to experience the heartbreak of being relegated with the London outfit in the previous campaign when they could only secure a 19th placed finish in the Premier League table. The 19-year-old was involved in 38 matches for Fulham last season and scored two goals while providing six assists across all competitions.
Sessegnon can run with the ball at high speed down the left flank, which makes him a potent threat for the opposing defenders on the counter. The teenage prospect will add another dimension to Mauricio Pochettino’s attack if he is allowed to move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in this off-season.
The Fulham whizkid is predominantly a left-sided winger who began his playing career in the left-back position. Sessegnon has also represented England at various youth levels and could be destined to play an integral role for his nation in the years to come. He is currently plying his trade for the Three Lions Under-21 team at the international level, having featured in ten matches for them so far.
What Will The English Wing Wizard Bring To North London?
Sessegnon has incredible pace, which makes such a dangerous threat on the counter. When the England U-21 international is firing on all cylinders, he can be an unstoppable force in the opposition half. However, the Championship prospect needs to score more goals and be more creative in the final third if he wants to become a world-class winger someday.
Will Sessegnon Be A Good Option For Pochettino?
Sessegnon’s acquisition will significantly improve the overall depth of the Spurs squad which could help them mount a realistic title charge next season. However, the English wonderkid won’t be guaranteed regular playing time in North London with so much competition around him.
There are some outstanding talents at Pochettino’s disposal with the likes of Lucas Moura, Heung-min Son and Erik Lamela all competing for a wide berth in the Tottenham first-team. Sessegnon will provide healthy competition for them in the upcoming campaign.
