In a recent interview following Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-2 win over Juventus in Singapore (via Football.London), Mauricio Pochettino provided an update on his side’s pursuit of Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale and said, “I saw in the media but I do not know which club is working to try to sign him.
“At the moment, I do not have any information from my chairman.
“I don’t know if it is us or another club. It is not my job.
“It is the job of my chairman who is trying to build the best possible squad.”
The Argentine head coach has refused to rule out a potential move for Bale in this off-season. At the same time, he has not confirmed Spurs’ interest in bringing their former star back to North London before the start of the new campaign.
Bale’s Lack Of Form For Los Blancos Last Season
The 30-year-old struggled to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure last summer. He had to endure a lacklustre campaign at the Spanish capital in the previous campaign when he failed to find consistency with his performances on the field. However, Bale still managed to find the back of the net 14 times and provided six assists in 42 appearances for Los Blancos in the last term.
The re-appointment of Zinedine Zidane as Madrid’s manager earlier this year has put even more doubt over Bale’s long-term future at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Thus, a change of scenery in this off-season could help the Welshman rekindle his career in European football.
The Cardiff-born speedster knows Tottenham well from his time at North London. He should not have any problems adjusting to life in England as long as he can stay injury-free in the coming years. At 30, Bale still has a few seasons left in his locker to perform at a high level so he could be an ideal asset for Pochettino’s team in the short-term.
What Will The Welsh International Add To Pochettino’s Side?
Bale has blistering pace, which enables him to make lung-bursting dribbles down the wide areas. He can beat his marker using his speed and trickery but needs to be more consistent if he wants to win more trophies at the highest level. The Wales international can also score goals from long-range as his shots often pack a lot of finesse and power.
Will Bale Be A Good Fit For Pochettino?
The La Liga wide player still has a lot to offer on the pitch. He will undoubtedly add more quality to the Tottenham first-team if he decides to move to North London this summer. However, Bale has been plagued with injuries in recent years. Thus, there is a risk that he might miss a lot of games for Spurs if they bring him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Even then, the pros of having a player of Bale’s ilk outweigh the cons, which makes him a good fit for Pochettino’s side for the short-term.
