According to the latest reports from Bolton news, Rangers linked striker Josh Magennis is looking for a move away from Bolton and is seeking help from the PFA in his attempts to leave the club. English club Bolton has been in doldrums for quite a while now, and they were recently forced to cancel a friendly against Preston North End as players were striking.
Magennis had issued a notice to leave the club several weeks ago as he is not being paid. However, Bolton have overlooked that notice, and they are demanding a transfer fee for the striker. With all these developments, Magennis has turned towards PFA to help him exit Bolton.
Rangers were linked (Belfast Telegraph) with the Northern Ireland striker a few weeks ago. The forward is already in the final year of his contract at the club. There is no doubt to us that the Gers can sign the 28-year-old if they really want to given the problem the player and his club are facing right now.
Where can Magennis fit in?
Kyle Lafferty is currently linked with a move away from the club, and his fellow countryman could be eyed as a replacement. Like Lafferty, Magennis is known for his physical strength and ability to hold up play. Rangers have two top strikers in the form of Jermain Defoe and Alfredo Morelos.
However, both of them are a bit similar, and someone like Magennis can provide Gerrard with a plan B. Rangers can look to take a more direct approach when someone like Magennis is on the pitch, and he can be seen as a third choice striker at the Ibrox.
Should Gerrard move in for him?
The 28-year-old has the experience of playing in the Scottish Premiership before as he played for Kilmarnock and Aberdeen. The striker though hasn’t had many prolific scoring spells in his career. He managed six goals for Bolton last season in 45 appearances. However, he shouldn’t be entirely judged on that number as Bolton failed to provide him with many chances.
It remains to be seen now whether the 41 times international forward will be available for free or will Rangers have to pay a transfer fee for him? In any case, we don’t think that Bolton would demand a hefty fee for their striker. Magennis is definitely not a standout option, but the club should consider a signing like this as it will give Gerrard different options in a game if things don’t go his way.
