According to the reports from the Evening Times, fallen Italian giants AC Milan have been scouting Rangers’ forward Alfredo Morelos. Milan representatives were said to be in attendance to see the striker in action against the likes of St Joseph’s and Progres Niederkorn.
Rangers are reportedly wary of AC Milan’s interest in the Colombian striker, but no bids have been made yet. It is no surprise to see Morelos attracting attention from some of the top divisions after his 30 goal campaign from last season. The new season has just got underway, and the 22-year-old has already bagged a hattrick to his name.
There is no doubt that the former HJK Helsinki forward is the biggest asset which Rangers have at the moment. The club and Gerrard will have to play this smartly if any move goes through. Everyone is aware that the following season could be a massive one from Rangers’ point of view.
Club’s Managing Director on Morelos
Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson insisted that the forward is happy at the club. He was quoted as saying, ”Listen, we’ll see what happens. There have been no bids for Alfredo so far. He’s started the season well. He’s playing with a smile on his face, so he looks happy to be here, and we’re delighted to have him.”
What now for Gerrard?
However, we all know that things can change quickly in the transfer market. Morelos has indicated in the past that a move to the Premier League will be a dream one for him. Good thing for Rangers is that no English top-flight club has made a concrete approach.
Moreover, the Premier League window closes early so that will be another positive for the Bears as the striker’s head might not turn enough to join the other leagues. But it would be advisable for Gerrard to keep an eye on possible replacements if the move goes through.
Rangers should be in a strong position to negotiate as they improved Morelos’ deal not too long ago. Rangers are likely to hold out for a price of £20m for the forward. Given the importance of the upcoming season, ideally, the Bears will want to keep him. But a big-money offer could be too tough to turn down. However, Morelos’ antics and disciplinary issues might act as a deterrent to possible suitors. That might turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Rangers in terms of keeping hold of the player for another year.
