According to a recent report by Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Manchester United are interested in securing the services of Blaise Matuidi from Juventus but will face competition from Paris Saint-Germain during this summer transfer period. The same source has also mentioned that the Turin outfit could cash in on the French midfielder following the arrivals of Adrien Rabiot and Aaron Ramsey in this off-season.
Matuidi’s Incredible Career In European Football
The 32-year-old has a wealth of experience in French and Italian football respectively and has won multiple trophies during his playing career. However, father time is catching up to him as he is slowing down with each passing season. At 32, Matuidi still has a few years left in him to play at the highest level so he could be an ideal short-term acquisition for the Red Devils.
The Toulouse-born talent had another solid campaign at Juve’s Allianz Stadium after he put in a series of commanding displays in the Italian top-flight. Matuidi featured in 42 matches under Massimiliano Allegri’s tutelage in the previous term, scoring three goals while grabbing three assists in all competitions.
The ex-PSG midfield ace has also secured 80 international caps for France and has registered nine goals for them thus far. He played an integral role in his nation’s FIFA World Cup triumph in Russia last year.
What Does The France International Offer On The Field?
Matuidi has decent pace in his locker and is a hard man to dispossess when he is dribbling with the ball from midfield. He is a tough-tackling workhorse who can protect the backline when his teammates need help at the back. The Frenchman is dominant in the air and wins a lot of 50-50 duels at the centre of the park. However, the Juve midfield ace is not the same offensive force as he used to be in the opposition half as he has lost a yard of pace from his game.
Will Matuidi Be A Good Choice For The Red Devils?
The acquisition of a player of Matuidi’s vast experience and skillset will undoubtedly bolster Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s midfield options at Old Trafford. He will not only add more bite to the Red Devils midfield but will also inject a winning mentality to Solskjaer’s squad.
The Frenchman will be a fantastic choice for the Mancunian outfit as long as they can pair him up with his international compatriot Paul Pogba at the heart of the Man United midfield next season.
