According to a recent report by the Evening Standard, Liverpool are in the running to secure the services of Fulham teenager Harvey Elliott during this ongoing summer transfer window. The same source has also claimed that the Reds will face stiff competition from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Red Bull Leipzig in pursuit of the Cottagers youngster in this off-season.
Elliott’s Remarkable Rise In English Football
Elliott became the youngest player ever aged just 16 years and 30 days to play in the Premier League when he made his first-team debut for Fulham back in May last season. The English winger has incredible potential and could be nurtured into a world-class player in his position in the coming years.
The 16-year-old made 28 appearances for Fulham’s Under-18 side in the last term, scoring five goals while grabbing five assists across all competitions. The London-born prospect has also represented England at various youth levels and is currently an integral member of England’s Under-17 team, having scored two goals in five matches for them thus far.
Why Liverpool Could Be An Ideal Destination For The English Wonderkid
Elliott is versatile enough to operate on either flank, but he prefers to play on the right side of the Fulham midfield. At 16, he is still quite raw and needs to develop his game over the next few seasons so that he is ready to play for an elite club someday. A move to Liverpool this early in his career would be a welcome change as the Merseyside club has developed a reputation for giving their youth players a chance in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team.
The rapid rise of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez should serve as proof that the Reds are doing a great job with regards to nurturing young players into successful professionals over the past few years.
Is Elliott A Prospect For The Future?
The acquisition of a player of Elliott’s potential will undoubtedly bolster Klopp’s attacking options at Anfield in the future. However, for now, the talented teenager would have to work hard on improving his game even if he decides to move to Merseyside this summer.
Klopp has a plethora of wing options in his squad so Elliott could learn from the senior players if he decides to move to Melwood before the start of the new season. There is no doubt that the English starlet is a player to look out for in the future as he has all the skillset required to be a success story in English football.
