According to a recent report by the Daily Mirror (via the Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are interested in securing the signature of Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir during this ongoing summer transfer window. However, the Liverpool Echo has claimed that the Reds will only move in for the European shot-stopper if Simon Mignolet makes a move away from Anfield in this off-season.
Ugurcan Cakir: One Of The Rising Stars Of Turkish Football
The Turkish goalie joined Trabzonspor as a young player from Yamanspor in the summer of 2011. He has spent his entire playing career in Turkey while working his way up Trabzonspor’s youth ranks before finally featuring for their first-team back in 2014.Â
Cakir has made a total of 34 appearances for the Turkish giants, conceding 42 goals while keeping nine clean sheets across all competitions. He has represented Turkey at various youth levels and has also managed to earn one international cap for his nation thus far.
The Antalya born talent enjoyed the best year of his career in the previous campaign. He put in some sensational performances to help his club earn a fourth-place finish in the Super Lig standings.
What Will The Turkish Keeper Add To Klopp’s Side?
Cakir has decent reflexes which help him pull off some fantastic saves at the back. He can also distribute the ball accurately even when put under pressure from the opposition attackers. However, he is a poor handler of the ball and can be caught out of position during a contest. At 23, the Turkish talent still has a lot of time to improve his game so that he can be a top-level keeper someday.
Will Cakir Be A Perfect Back-Up For Alisson?
The acquisition of Cakir will undoubtedly improve Klopp’s goalkeeping options at Anfield. However, when compared to Simon Mignolet, the Turkish shot-stopper is still a rookie as he has not proven his worth at the highest level.
If Mignolet ends up departing the Merseyside club this summer, then it makes sense for Liverpool to go after Cakir. The Turkish goalie has the potential to become an ideal back-up for Alisson in the years to come.
