In a recent column with the Sunday Post, Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish urged Jurgen Klopp to retain the services of Ryan Kent, who has been linked with to Rangers, beyond this summer. In his blog with the Sunday Post, Dalglish wrote, “I’m sure Jurgen Klopp will try to be helpful to Steven Gerrard wherever he can. We’ve seen that with the number of players who have made the journey from Anfield to Ibrox since Steven became Light Blues manager.
“But Jurgen’s priority is his own team. And, right now, Klopp needs Kent. If Kent impresses and really catches the eye of the manager, then he may well not be allowed to leave as Jurgen will see him as part of his first-team squad.
“Alternatively, a big-money bid could come in for Ryan, and there would be a decision whether to sell or not. We will just have to wait and see what happens. Rangers will need to be patient with this one.”
Kent’s Outstanding Loan Spell At Rangers Last Season
The Reds legend makes some good points regarding the long-term future of Kent at Anfield. The young winger put in some dazzling displays during his loan spell at the Ibrox Stadium last season. The 22-year-old scored six goals and created nine assists in 43 appearances for the Glaswegian giants across all competitions.
The Oldham-born prospect has improved his game under the expert stewardship of Steven Gerrard, so this upcoming campaign could be his ideal chance to shine in the colours of Liverpool. The Reds would benefit from retaining a natural winger like Kent as he is an exciting talent who could make a real difference if given a regular run of games at Merseyside.
What Are The English Winger’s Strengths And Weaknesses?
Kent boasts blistering pace and is a very penetrative dribbler with the ball at his feet. The ex-Coventry City wide man is not afraid to take on his marker and can get to the by-line to either create a chance for his teammates or set-up a goal-scoring opportunity for himself.
However, Kent needs to add more end-product to his game if he wants to succeed at the highest level. While his end product did improve a lot during the final phase of his campaign at Rangers, he needs to do even better to break into the first team at Liverpool.
Should The Reds Comply With Dalglish’s Wishes?
There is no doubt that Klopp should consider listening to Dalglish’s advice as the English wonderkid could give his side an edge in the Premier League title race next season. Liverpool could use him as an impact substitute from the bench as his incredible pace will cause a lot of problems for a tired opposition backline towards the latter stages of a contest.
