According to Fanatik, as cited by Sport Witness, Liverpool are interested in the services of Abdulkadir Omur. The Trabzonspor midfielder has been identified as an ideal long-term investment for the club by Jurgen Klopp. However, the Reds plan to loan him back to Trabzonspor next season as club officials fear Omur is unlikely to qualify for a work permit.
Omur’s rise to prominence
A product of the Trabzonspor youth academy, Omur has been a part of the first-team since 2016. He made his breakthrough into professional football during the 2017/18 campaign when the 20-year-old was involved in 29 league matches.
Omur scored three goals and provided six assists during that corresponding season – a performance that made him a prominent part of the Trabzonspor attack. And as expected, the Turkish international played a key role for the Karadeniz Fırtınası last season, having been involved in 14 league goals. His contribution in attack helped the club achieved a fourth-place finish in the league.
Omur the “Turkish Messi”
Omur earned the nickname “Turkish Messi” due to his exquisite control on the ball and willingness to take on opposing defenders. He is a predominantly a right-sided midfielder but can also operate in a central role and even as a number ten.
The 20-year-old has extremely quick feet, which, coupled with his short 1.68m frame allows him to nestle his way through tight spaces. As far as his style of play is concerned, Omur likes to get inside the penalty box and delivered squared crosses into the six-yard area. His ability to attack the opposition relentlessly on the far side has made him a productive attacker.
Should Liverpool make a move for Omur?
Liverpool needs reinforcements in the creative department as they have appeared far too reliant on the services of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. Although the return of Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain has boosted the Reds, making a move for Omur might not be a bad decision.
The Turkish whizkid has already shown what he is capable of, and he could ideally thrive under the leadership of Klopp. Besides, spending yet another season in the Turkish top flight will provide him with the much-needed experience that could help him impress at the highest level of football. Hence, the Trabzonspor star is a viable option for the Champions League winners.
