According to the latest reports from Wales Online, Leeds United are one of the parties interested in signing Portsmouth’s English winger Jamal Lowe. The Pompey recently rejected two bids for Lowe, and the latest proposal has likely come from Wigan Athletic and Millwall.
It is believed that these two clubs are the only clubs who have made a concrete approach for the winger. Along with the Whites, Middlesbrough and Cardiff City also hold some interest in Lowe.
The Englishman is attracting the attention of some of the top Championship clubs after an impressive season in League One where he managed to score 17 goals playing as a right-winger. Leeds United have made a great addition in that position in the form of Helder Costa, and he will likely be the preferred option from the right flank.
The Whites are said to be in the market for Liverpool’s winger Ryan Kent who is more of a left winger. Liverpool holds the key there as they have Kent on a long term contract and we feel that the Whites are unlikely to sign him permanently.
Will Lowe be a good signing after the acquisition of Costa and Harrison?
The Whites are still looking to add one more winger, and if they fail to secure the services of Ryan Kent, then Lowe is worth considering. Portsmouth are valuing the 24-year-old at £3m which should be very reasonable for the Whites after they made good money from the sale of Jack Clarke and Pontus Jansson.
Lowe is already in the final year of his contract, so the Pompey are not in the best of position to negotiate for the winger. The League One club does have an option to extend his contract for one more year though. Lowe can easily slot in on the left flank as well so that should be a plus for Bielsa.
What will he bring at Elland Road?
The 24-year-old is a busy player who always looks to make things happen. His direct style of play and ability to take on defenders should suit Bielsa’s plans well. He can trouble the opposition with his pace and dribbling skills, but what makes him a stand out option is his goal threat.
The Whites were often guilty of not finishing off their moves or finding the right pass in the final third which eventually cost them a place in the Premier League last season. Lowe seems to have mature head over his shoulders, and his finishing is worth mentioning. Therefore he is definitely worth considering in this window.
