Liverpool have announced on their official website that they expect Guinean midfielder Naby Keita to be available for pre-season training later this month. The club report also revealed that the ex-Leipzig talent suffered a minor adductor strain while on international duty for his country in the African Cup of Nations.
Keita was assessed by the Reds medical team who have reported that he would be fit in time to be involved in Jurgen Klopp’s pre-season preparations ahead of the new campaign (via liverpoolfc.com).
Keita’s Struggles With Injuries At Anfield
The former Bundesliga prospect had to endure a mediocre tournament in the African of Nations as he could only help his country win one out of their three group stage matches in the competition. The 24-year-old was a frustrated figure at Anfield last season as he was ravaged by injuries which derailed his chance to shine in Klopp’s first-team.
The Guinea Midfielder Has Shown A Lot Of Promise
However, to his credit, Keita did score a couple of important goals for the Merseyside club in their title run-in towards the latter stages of the previous Premier League campaign. The Conakry born midfield ace made 33 appearances for the Reds in the last term, scoring three goals while providing one assist in all competitions.
There is no doubt that Keita had flattered to deceive with his performances on the field for Liverpool last season. The Guinea international has already shown a few glimpses of his brilliance at Merseyside, and so most of the Kopites around the world would now hope that he would be able to move on and perform at a high level in the upcoming campaign.
Keita’s Speedy Return From Injury: Massive Boost For Liverpool?
The recent news on Keita’s availability for pre-season training would be a big boost for the Reds as Klopp would have enough time to assess him this summer before the new season kicks off in the English top-flight next month.
Keita has a bright future under Klopp’s tutelage at Anfield, so it’s high time for him to prove his true worth on the pitch. If the Guinean midfielder can start well in the upcoming campaign, then he might have an ideal platform to flourish in the top tier of England.
