According to Globo Esporte, Everton are ready to splash £35 million for the services of Reinier. The Flamengo attacker has courted the interest of a host of top clubs across Europe, including Real Madrid, Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund. But, it is believed the Toffees are willing to make a move for the Brazilian youngster, who isn’t eligible to leave until he turns 18 next year.
Reinier: the next big thing in Brazilian football?
An attacking midfielder by trade, Reinier has impressed the onlookers with his blistering performances in the Brazilian youth leagues. He is, in fact, already being compared to former AC Milan and Real Madrid superstar Kaka, at least in terms of playing style.
Indeed, Reinier has exquisite control over the ball that allows him to nestle his way through tight spaces. He is also adept in creating chances by threading accurate through balls in behind the defence. Additionally, the 17-year-old is capable of taking on defenders, as you would expect from any talented Brazilian.
However, an essential aspect of Reinier’s game is his physicality. Unlike most other young players, who are all about skill and technique, the Flamengo whizkid relies heavily on his physique that enables him to keep hold of the ball. He has a tall 1.85m frame that makes it difficult for the defenders to shrug the ball off from the youngster.
Moreover, the attacking midfielder has a vicious right foot and loves to test the opposing ‘goalkeeper with attempts from long-range. Reinier can be deemed as a well-rounded number ten, who can be groomed into a world-class attacker within the coming years, provided he is nurtured well enough.
Is Reinier a good option for Everton?
For a fee of £35 million, Reinier will be no less than a gamble for Everton, especially given his lack of experience in senior football. But, at the same time, the youngster has all the traits that could potentially make him an asset for the Merseyside giants in the near future.
However, very few players have been able to integrate themselves to professional football at this age. This poses question marks as to whether or not Reinier will be able to cope with the fast-paced nature of the Premier League when he turns 18 next year.
Hence, it would perhaps be wiser for Everton to drop the pursuit of this Flamengo prodigy and instead focus on a more experienced attacker, who can instantly make an impact at the Goodison Park next season.
