Rangers have one foot in the third round of the Europa League qualifiers as they secured a 2-0 win in the first leg at Ibrox. However, Gerrard would know that any complacency could hurt them, and Progres created some dangerous moments in the last game as well.
Gerrard’s men have started the campaign brilliantly, and they look like strong contenders to match Celtic this season. In 2017, Progres had lost the first leg, but they managed to turn the tie around in front of their home fans as they won 2-0 on the night after suffering a 1-0 defeat earlier.
Rangers had a great chance to secure this year’s tie as James Tavernier missed from the spot in the first leg when the home side were leading by two goals to nil. Nevertheless, from the balance of the previous game, the Scottish heavyweights should be able to see out their opponents.
Team News: There are no major injury concerns for anyone in the squad and all the players should be fit and raring to go.
Rangers predicted lineup Vs Progres Niederkorn
Formation (4-3-3)
Defence
Allan McGregor should start in goal for his side. George Edmundson impressed in the last game, and we would really like Gerrard not to make continuous changes to his backline. The young Englishman should start along with the more experienced Connor Goldson in defence. Nikola Katic might feel hard done by, but Edmundson doesn’t deserve to be rested or rotated after his performance in the last game.
James Tavernier should be a nailed-on starter from the right side of the defence. It could be a toss-up between Andy Halliday and Borna Barisic for the left-back spot, and we think that Barisic might make the cut this time around.
Midfield
Ryan Jack might start in the deepest role in midfield. Glen Kamara wasn’t used in the last game, and we think that he might be given the nod to start in this tie. Gerrard has plenty of options to choose from in midfield, but we would like to see Joe Aribo partner up with Kamara in the middle of the park. Steven Davis and Scott Arfield might miss out.
Attack
Jordan Jones should start down the left-wing. On-loan Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo has slotted in well on the flanks, and he should continue from the right-hand side. It could go either way between Jermain Defoe and Alfredo Morelos for the man upfront. We think that Gerrard might prefer the experience of Defoe in this game with Rangers already being 2-0 up.
