Rangers have strengthened themselves significantly with a host of promising signings but, at the same time, are expecting a few exits before the summer transfer deadline. Alfredo Morelos is one of them who has been in the radar of many following a couple of productive campaigns at the Ibrox, and according to Scottish football news site Rincon Escoces (as claimed by Football Scotland), the Colombian is now being targeted by Crystal Palace ahead of the upcoming term.
The Eagles are fighting a lost battle to keep hold of Wilfried Zaha who has asked for an exit amid interest from Arsenal whereas Christian Beneke, a player in his decline, won’t be relied upon in their attacking third after scoring just once during the previous campaign.
Jordan Ayew and Michy Batshuayi have returned to their parent clubs upon completion of their loan spells, and therefore, a move for Morelos is quite possible considering their current status.
The 23-year-old striking sensation fired in 30 goals in all competitions, but his lack of maturity and discipline must have infuriated Gerrard after receiving his fifth red card of the season in the famous Old Firm derby. His quality has never been questioned, but his attitude is troublesome. The player might be allowed to leave if the club’s valuation of £20m is met as stated previously by Rangers Managing Director Stewart Robertson (as cited by Football Scotland).
“I dream every day of playing in the Premier League. I want to improve in each training session so I can get there.”
Stated (as quoted by talkSport) the youngster last year highlighting Gerrard’s influence in his rapid growth. Borussia Dortmund, Nice, Marseille and Newcastle United are also keeping close tabs on his situation (as claimed by the Daily Record) for a while, and the Gers must not stand in his way if a suitable offer is received in due time.
The gaffer has strengthened the wide attack by tying down Sheyi Ojo, Jake Hastie, Jordan Jones and Greg Stewart. Some of them are quite versatile capable of featuring across the backline, but the Bears must rope in an outright centre-forward to complement veteran Jermain Defoe. Kyle Lafferty, axed from their pre-season trip to Portugal, would be offloaded too as he struggled with his form as well as fitness throughout last season.
Rangers, presumably, are not done yet in the market and must identify a new ‘number 9’ before parting ways with Morelos. They are tipped to challenge Celtic for the Scottish throne, and the next term is going to be decisive for the Glasgow giants en route to redeeming their lost glory.
Sidenote: Also, as good as Kemar Roofe was for Leeds (trust me I know, watched over 30 Championship games in which Leeds United played), he would probably not be the best fit at Rangers.
