Rangers are more or less done with their incoming transfers, and we don’t expect much activity in terms of new faces coming in at the club. There is one piece of the jigsaw though which they still want, and that is Ryan Kent. However, Jurgen Klopp recently poured cold water over Gerrard’s and Rangers’ hope of getting him back as the German manager revealed that a loan move is out of the question for the English winger.
Klopp on Kent
The Champions League-winning manager recently said (Liverpool Echo), ”The time is over, I think, for loans, because of his age, The players need to find a place where they can settle. A loan is not an option.”
Kent had previously iterated that he wants to settle in at a club and not change his team every year. Liverpool have probably taken this stance because they might want to ship him away permanently. Various reports did the round that the Reds will demand somewhere in the region of £12m which very much puts Rangers out of the race.
Moreover, Liverpool might want to keep hold of Kent for the initial few games in the Premier League given the fact that their esteemed front three is yet to start their pre-season. However, that shouldn’t be a problem for Rangers as they can sign players until the second of September. But now it seems like Liverpool are only keen to sell him permanently this summer.
What now for Gerrard?
A permanent move from Rangers’ point of view is likely to be off. However, there can be still some hope for the Scottish giants if no clubs comes in the market to sign him permanently. One of the teams that have been heavily linked with the 22-year-old is Leeds United, and like Rangers, they too were looking to get him on loan. We think that even the Whites will find it hard to get him permanently this summer.
Apart from that, there seems to be no real interest in Kent at the moment. Once the Premier League window closes, Kent to Rangers might remain a possibility. If Liverpool aren’t able to find a suitor say until the end of August, they might have to accept sending him away on loan reluctantly. Even if it’s for a six month, Rangers will take that.
In all this, Rangers can’t do much, and they should think of Kent’s signing as a bonus. They have plenty of promising options for the wide positions, and we believe that they will be able to cope up without the Liverpool man.
