Rangers might have become a resurgent force under Steven Gerrard, but Celtic are still the champions of Scotland having conquered a historic treble ‘treble’ to announce their supremacy. Despite an array of summer exits, the Hoops have been calm amid the madness of the summer window. They are likely to rope in a few more names before the transfer deadline.
According to Calcio Buzz (as cited by the Daily Record), Celtic are on the verge of tying down Andrea Bertolacci on a Bosman transfer. The former AC Milan ace left San Siro upon expiration of his contract and has drawn the attention of the Bhoys over a potential switch to Parkhead ahead of the upcoming term.
Early Career And What Went Wrong For The Midfielder
The 28-year-old Italian progressed through the youth ranks of Roma before leaving for Lecce to attain regular minutes. His performance earned him a transfer to Genoa where he had the most promising phase of his career. The midfielder was handed his senior international debut by then boss Antonio Conte and went on to represent the Azzurri 5 times by 2015.
His upsurge led to a stunning €20m move to Milan which, however, ended up in catastrophe. Bertolacci was not at all in Gennaro Gattuso’s plan and only appeared in four European fixtures last season. He did not play a single minute of league football.
The once highly-rated I Rossoblu star must be determined to resurrect his career, and a move to Celtic might be the best possible shot right now considering his current status.
Why Lennon Should Secure His Services
Although Bertolacci failed to live up to the hype for the Rossoneri, his versatility and work ethics would be a massive gain for Neil Lennon in the middle of the work. Predominantly a creative attacking midfielder, the Azzurri professional could also be deployed in a box-to-box role. He is effective as well while featuring as a deep-lying playmaker and the passing, distribution, vision and technical traits emphasise the all-round ability of his game.
The Hoops are sweating over the future of Olivier Ntcham who is seeking an exit. The wantaway Frenchman needs to be replaced in the centre of the pitch. Bertolacci, with all his experience and expertise, should bring in more balance and composure in midfield alongside skipper Scott Brown and the versatile Callum McGregor.
