In the latest edition of the Transfer Talk podcast (via Sky Sports), Belgian football expert Kristoff Terreur shed some light on AS Monaco midfielder, Youri Tielemans’ future and said,
“Leicester are still in pole position to sign him. The problem they have is that they didn’t have an option to buy him, otherwise it would have been an easy deal.
“Monaco know he has performed well in the Premier League so they want at least £40m or £50m so Leicester are not, at the moment, willing to spend that money.
“If a club like Man Utd comes in where you can play European football, which is always very important for continental players, they can offer him that so he might rethink. He knows that Solskjaer rates him so he feels that the manager likes him.
“If I was him, I would say stay at Leicester because he’s still young, he’s 21 years old, you get that run of two years but then he might have the same difficulties as Harry Maguire. It’s difficult to leave Leicester with the current owners so he’s considering that too.”
Terreur makes some valid points regarding Tielemans’ future based on the fact that Man United have the lure of European football which could help them win the race to sign the Belgian youngster this summer.
Tielemans’ Successful Loan Spell In The Premier League
The 22-year-old enjoyed a stellar loan spell with Leicester City last season when he put in some dazzling displays for them in the second half of the previous campaign. Tielemans made 13 appearances in the Premier League, scoring three goals while grabbing five assists in all competitions.
The Belgian talent has all the skillset required to be a success story at Old Trafford if Solskjaer can somehow find a way to recruit him before the start of the new campaign.
Tielemans had already proven himself in the Premier League during his time at the King Power Stadium last season. Hence, he would be a low-risk acquisition for the Red Devils if they choose to sign him in the coming weeks.
What Will The Belgian Prospect Add To Solskjaer’s Team?
Tielemans can run with the ball at top speed and can complete some lung-bursting dribbles from midfield without losing possession for his team. The Monaco midfield ace can pick out a killer pass in the offensive end of the pitch. The Belgian international has also added goals to his game which he often creates by making some dangerous late runs into the opposition penalty box.
Should Solskjaer Move In For Tielemans This Summer?
At 22, Tielemans has his best years ahead of him which Man United could look to benefit from by bringing him to the Theatre of Dreams ahead of the new season. Recruiting the Belgian wonderkid will undoubtedly bolster Solskjaer’s midfield options at the Mancunian club. Hence, the Red Devils should go all out in pursuit of Tielemans this summer as he could potentially help them secure a top 4 spot in the English top-flight next season.
