According to a recent report by Goal.com, Barcelona have agreed on a deal to secure the services of Hiroki Abe from Kashima Antlers during this summer transfer window. The same source has mentioned that the Catalan giants have reached an agreement with the Japanese outfit which would see the J League Rookie of the Year move to the Nou Camp in this off-season.
The Incredible Rise Of Hiroki Abe In The J League
The Tokyo-born prospect enjoyed a magnificent season after he put in a string of dazzling displays for Kashima in the previous campaign. His incredible contributions helped the J League outfit win the AFC Champions League last season.
Abe featured in 25 matches for Kashima in the last term, scoring two goals while grabbing two assists in all competitions. He also managed to secure three international caps for the Japanese national side but is yet to open his goal-scoring account for his nation thus far.
The 20-year-old is one of the brightest prospects coming out of Asian football, and so Barca will have a real gem on their hands if they can finalise Abe’s transfer in the coming days.
What Will The J League Sensation Bring To The Nou Camp?
Abe boasts blistering pace, which allows him to make some dangerous runs behind the opposition backline. He can also dribble with the ball without losing possession and is not afraid to take on his marker in 1v1 situations. However, he is still quite a raw talent and would need time to develop his game and unlock his true potential in the years to come.
Is Abe A Prospect For The Future?
The acquisition of a wide player of Abe’s remarkable potential will undoubtedly improve the overall quality of Ernesto Valverde’s squad. The Japanese youngster is also highly versatile as he can play on either flank or assume a more central role in midfield which could make him a useful asset at Barcelona.
As long as the Catalan outfit are willing to be patient with his development, Abe should be a good fit for Barca as he is a star in the making. At 20, the Kashima wonderkid still has plenty of time to improve his game and become a world-class winger someday.
