According to a recent report by the Sun, Arsenal are working on making a £12m bid to secure the services of Jarrod Bowen from Hull City during this summer transfer period. The same source has revealed that the Gunners have been keeping tabs on the EFL Championship winger since January and have been left impressed by some of his match-winning displays for Hull last season.
Arsenal needs to recruit more homegrown players so acquiring a talented English wide player like Bowen will ease their concerns with regards to meeting that criteria while also allowing them to build for a bigger and better future at the Emirates Stadium.
Bowen’s Outstanding Season At Hull City
The 22-year-old was in stellar form for Hull in the previous campaign when he put in numerous goal-scoring displays for the Tigers which helped them steer clear of relegation trouble last season. Bowen managed to score 22 goals and grab four assists in 46 matches for the Yorkshire outfit in the previous term across all competitions.
However, there is a concern over whether he would be able to replicate his form in the Premier League if Arsenal can win the race to sign him in this off-season.
What Will The English Winger Add To Emery’s Team?
Bowen is versatile enough to play anywhere across the frontline, but he prefers to operate as a right-sided winger. The Leominster born sensation has enough pace in his locker to make lung-bursting dribbles with the ball out on the flanks. He has developed a habit of scoring goals regularly for his team but making a step up to the English top-flight could see him struggle in the offensive end of the field.
Bowen will be a perfect fit for Unai Emery’s brand of football at North London, but the jury is still out on whether he would be able to justify his worth in the top tier of England.
The Gunners need more natural width going forward with Iwobi the only option on the flanks. So Bowen’s potential acquisition could add another dimension to Emery’s attack. Furthermore, the English wide man will also increase competition for places within the Gunners squad.
