According to the latest reports from the Sun, Burnley are considering a move for Leeds United’s midfielder Mateusz Klich. The Polish international was one of the mainstays of Marcelo Bielsa’s side last season as he started in every game in the Championship for his team. His impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed, and now it seems like the Whites will face another battle to keep hold of their crucial player.
The future of Kalvin Phillips is also up in the air and has been highlighted heavily in the media in the past few days with Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur interested. The Whites are holding on to the price tag of £30m. It remains to be seen now how high United will rate Klich, who is also a vital cog in the Bielsa system.
Why is Klich important for the Whites?
The fact that he started every game in the Championship last season shows how important and irreplaceable he is to the Argentine manager. Like Kemar Roofe, the Poland international is also in the final year of his contract at the club, so the Whites aren’t going to make things easier for themselves if the Clarets come up with a concrete offer.
Klich whose Leeds United career was in doldrums for the most parts showed his true potential since Bielsa took over. The 29-year-old played in a box to box role and contributed with ten goals and nine assists. His work rate and on the ball qualities and ability to find telling pass in the final third made him a top player for the Whites. To put it simply, he made things ‘Klich’ for United in midfield.
Leeds United are already short of options in midfield, and we think that they should look to sign another central midfielder to ease the burden off Klich who looked jaded on occasions given the fact that he was starting every game. Therefore selling Klich is almost out of the question here.
The Whites are financially well off as well, and they shouldn’t have any more pressure to sell anyone to comply with the FFP rules as they have already parted ways with Pontus Jansson and Jack Clarke (who is back on a season-long loan deal).
A worrying sign for Bielsa
Burnley are an established Premier League side, and we think that Klich’s head could turn if the Whites go on to lose someone like Phillips as well. After few impressive incoming transfers, Leeds United are now facing an uphill task in the transfer market to keep hold of their star players, and this is definitely a big worrying sign with the Clarets now interested in a move for the Polish midfielder.
