Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham has been causing a bit of trouble at Parkhead of late. Boss Neil Lennon has acknowledged that fact and he indicated (The Scottish Sun) that the Frenchman would have to come up with an apology once he joins the squad. Ntcham had reportedly said that he was disappointed not to join Porto last season and was flattered to see interest from French heavyweights Marseille. The former Manchester City midfielder also indicated that Scottish football wasn’t challenging enough.
It seems clear that the player wants a move and there is no point in the Hoops trying to keep a player whose heart isn’t set at playing for the club. Therefore Lennon should start looking at replacements and here are three options he can go after.
Marco Stiepermann
The Norwich City midfielder had a fantastic campaign last season as he helped his side reach the Premier League. The German attacking midfielder contributed with ten goals and nine assists in all competitions. Luring him to the Premiership might be a bit of a problem for Celtic as Stiepermann is an established first-team player for Daniel Farke.
Nevertheless, the club should be able to come up with an offer which might tempt Norwich to sell the 28-year-old midfielder. Celtic can gain a decent sum by selling Ntcham, and they will also make big money if the sale of Tierney to Arsenal goes through. So we think that the Hoops can afford someone like Stiepermann with all those player sales.
Tom Cleverley
The Watford midfielder has fallen down the pecking order at Vicarage Road ever since the emergence of Doucoure, Hughes and Capoue. The 29-year-old Premier League winner can still be a good option for Celtic. His link-up play is often impressive, and when required, he can feature from the flanks as well. The midfielder has plenty of experience of playing at the toughest of level, and he can turn out to be a smart signing.
Ivan Sunjic
The 22-year-old Dinamo Zagreb midfielder is considered as the next heir to Luka Modric in Croatia. Typically a defensive midfielder, Sunjic can easily slot in to play as a central or attacking midfielder. His on the ball qualities make him a special prospect, and he can dictate play from the middle of the park.
His technical attributes will make him fit in almost any kind of role in midfield. Celtic should definitely try their luck to bring in this Croatia’s u-21 captain.
