Rangers recently parted ways with their winger Daniel Candeias as he left the Glaswegian giants for Turkish outfit Genclerbirligi. Gerrard’s first preference was to keep hold of the Portuguese winger. However, he reluctantly but respectfully allowed Candeias to leave the club.
One might think that Rangers have plenty of options in the wide region and they won’t really need to bring in a new face to replace Candeias. However, Steven Gerrard did indicate that they could look to replace him in this window. He recently said, ” If he (Candeias) goes, then it’s possible we could bring in someone else.”
We don’t agree with Gerrard’s stance as the club signed the likes of Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie and Sheyi Ojo in this window. However, if the manager wants a new signing, then here are three right-wingers that he can consider.
Lazar Markovic
The former Liverpool player is currently a free agent and is up for grabs. The winger was seen as a huge prospect when he played for Benfica, and that earned him a move to Liverpool. However, he only managed to make 32 appearances for them and was on the fringes of the squad since Jurgen Klopp took over.
However, he is still just 25, and he might be keen to prove himself. Blessed with impressive pace and dribbling skills, Markovic can make an impact in the Premiership if he settles in at the club. For free, he won’t be too big of a risk. The winger also has 22 national team appearances for Serbia.
Amato Ciciretti
The 25-year-old Napoli winger has failed to establish himself with the Italian heavyweights. He spent the last season on loan with Serie B outfit Acoli. It seems unlikely that he will be able to thrive for a club like Napoli, and we think that they will be willing to ship him away.
Ciciretti has got the bursting speed, and his agility can cause a lot of trouble to the Premiership defenders. His link-up play is also worth mentioning, and he can definitely be a shrewd signing for the club.
Marley Watkins
The two time Wales international currently plies his trade for Bristol City in the Championship. The 28-year-old managed two goals last season in 16 Championship appearances. Due to fierce competition for places, he wasn’t able to establish himself in the starting eleven. Watkins’ standout assets are his pace and dribbling skills, and he is physically strong as well which should stand him in good stead in the Premiership.
