According to Football London’s Alastair Gold, Tottenham Hotspur would be interested in signing Real Madrid’s Isco. The Spurs reporter reckons the Lilywhites will surely look to sign the Spaniard if there are no financial shortcomings as they aim to bolster their creative options in the ongoing summer transfer window.
Isco, along with Gareth Bale, is one of many players that could find themselves on the chopping block as Zinedine Zidane looks to undergo a massive squad overhaul. Real Madrid have already made five major signings, and it’s only a matter of time before they start to release some of their existing players.
Isco’s disastrous campaign at Real Madrid
It hasn’t exactly been a pleasant year for Isco, whose fallout with Santiago Solari drastically minimised his overall game-time during the 2018/19 campaign. And this is coupled with Real Madrid’s turbulent season that took a massive hit to the Spaniard’s importance at the club.
The ex-Malaga playmaker ended the campaign, making 27 appearances, only 11 of which were starts. Hence, it comes as no surprise that the Spanish international only managed to muster just 1,184 minutes of league football. And with the midfielder struggling to make himself a regular fixture in the Real Madrid lineup, a move away from Bernabeu could be on the horizon.
What can Isco bring to the table?
Much like Ilkay Gundogan, Isco is known for his ability to act as a ball-carrier. The 27-year-old is blessed with excellent technique and immense control over the ball that allows him to carry the ball across the half-spaces. He is also proficient when it comes to picking out players in behind the defence with lofted through balls.
One of the key assets of Isco’s gameplay is the silky footwork that gives him a considerable advantage in nestling through tight spaces and drifting past defenders. Also, he is quite dangerous from long-range – making him a complete package in the final third.
Why Isco would be perfect for Tottenham
Isco would be an ideal candidate to replace Christian Eriksen, who has been linked with a move away from North London this summer. In fact, Real Madrid is believed to be one of the clubs interested in securing his services, meaning if Spurs can somehow work out a swap deal between the two players, it could actually to be quite beneficial for the Premier League outfit.
The Spaniard has the quality to enhance Tottenham’s creative and build-up play and given his vast experience in top-flight football; it’s unlikely he will take much time in settling into life at his new club. He could also bring that much-needed winning mentality to the team – making him an ideal target for Spurs.
