According to Mundo Deportivo, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are closely monitoring the situation of Malcom. The Barcelona winger is set to hold talks with the club officials next week regarding his future at Catalonia, with the two North London giants keen on securing the services of the Brazilian winger this summer.
Malcom’s disastrous spell at Barcelona
Malcom was one of Europe’s most wanted wingers last summer, coming on the back of a remarkable season with Bordeaux. However, the Brazilian never really managed to make an impact at Catalonia following his £36 million move to Barcelona,
During his debut campaign at the club, Malcom featured in just over 600 minutes of league football. He was often overlooked by Ernesto Valverde, who preferred the likes of Ousmane Dembele and Philipe Coutinho ahead of him in the wide-attacking position.
The 22-year-old ended the campaign with just one goal and two assists. And quite understandably, his long-term future at Barcelona is in serious doubt.
What can Malcom add to the table?
Despite being advertised as a right winger, Malcom is known for his tendency to shift into a central role. That means he is an inverted winger, who, from central areas of the pitch, can open up both sides of the pitch and create chances in the final third.
He is also an excellent dribbler while his pace makes him a genuine threat from the counter. In addition, the 22-year-old is proficient when it comes to set-pieces, which is the primary source of his overall chance creation. But, what makes him such a sought-after attacker is his versatility as the Brazilian can feature anywhere across the final third, including the number nine slot. This makes it easier for managers to accomodate him in their respective offensive units.
Should Tottenham make a move for Malcom?
The addition of Malcom won’t make too much sense for Tottenham Hotspur this summer. As mentioned earlier, the Barcelona star is an inverted winger who likes to operate in a more central area. But, the Lilywhites already have two wingers in Son Heung-Min and Lucas Moura, both of who have acted in a central role this past season.
Furthermore, we can expect Malcom to cost a fair chunk of money given the fact that he still has four years left on his current contract. That means he could be a risky target for Tottenham Hotspur, who are already pursuing some high profile and expensive players in Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso this summer.
