According to a recent report by the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are confident about their chances of securing the services of Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham during the ongoing summer transfer window. The same source has mentioned that Spurs believe they can finally land their long-term target in this off-season.
Sessegnon’s Highs And Lows At Fulham Thus Far
The English teenager graduated from Fulham’s academy before he finally broke out as a first-team starter in 2016. Sessegnon made 38 appearances for the Cottagers last season, scoring two times while creating six assists in all competitions.
Sessegnon had to go through the agony of being relegated from the Premier League with the London outfit last season after his team could only manage to acquire 26 points from 38 top-flight matches. Hence, it would be increasingly difficult for Fulham to retain the services of the London-born whizkid this summer.
The 19-year-old is dangerous on the counter and would add another dimension to Mauricio Pochettino’s attack at the new White Hart Lane. Furthermore, Spurs do not possess too many wide players in their squad. He will not only add more competition for Heung-min Son, Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela but will also bolster their squad significantly ahead of the new campaign.
What Will The England Under-21 International Bring To The North London Club?
Sessegnon has blistering speed and tends to complete lung-bursting dribbles down the left wing. He is highly versatile as he can feature as both an offensive and a defensive force on the left flank. When the English starlet is firing on all cylinders, he has the potential to win matches on his own. However, he is yet to prove himself at the highest level, which makes him a risky signing for Spurs.
Sessegnon possesses all the skillset required to make a positive impact at Tottenham as long as Pochettino is willing to give him game time on the field. There is a chance that the Fulham youth product could go back into his own shell if he is forced to spend time on Pochettino’s bench.
At 19, the Premier League prospect is in dire need of regular first-team opportunities if he intends to become a household name in English football. Spurs could be a good fit for him in the long-run as he could play as an understudy to Danny Rose and learn from the England international.
