According to the latest reports from Leeds Live, QPR’s Luke Freeman is still a transfer target for Leeds United. Reports in March came out that Leeds United were interested in signing him, but the rumours went silent for the next few months. However, now it seems clear that the Whites are still in the race for him.
Recently Freeman was asked about the challenges of the 2018-19 season, and he took Leeds United’s name as one of the toughest teams to come across last season. He said, ”It has been a bit of a funny season in all honesty. You can play some really good teams on their day, but I would definitely say it has been Leeds United and Norwich City. I think back to playing Leeds United at Elland Road in the middle of the season, and they were excellent.”
The rise of Freeman
Going by his words, Freeman seems to be an admirer of the West Yorkshire outfit, or maybe he is trying to get in the good books of the club so that he can get a move to Elland Road. In any case, Leeds United need to add an attacking midfielder to their squad, and the QPR man seems to be a plausible option.
The midfielder was at Arsenal from 2008-2011, but he never managed to make a senior appearance for the English heavyweights. Freeman enjoyed great success with Bristol City when they won the League One title and EFL trophy in the same season in the 2014-15 campaign.
Freeman contributed with nine goals and eight assists in all competitions last season, and he can hit better numbers in a team like Leeds United. The attacking midfielder won QPR’s supporters player of the year award and losing out on him can spell trouble for the London based outfit.
Will the Englishman be a good signing for the Whites?
It is necessary for Bielsa to add a specialist attacking midfielder after Samuel Saiz departed from the club in January. Freeman is a proven player at this level, and he can turn out to be a shrewd signing for the club. The Englishman still has his contract at the London based club until 2021, so it remains to be seen how much QPR would demand for him.
The 27-year-old is a livewire in and around the attacking area and his impressive pace, dribbling skills and ability to pick out that final ball can spell a lot of trouble to the opposition defence. Freeman would definitely be a top addition for Bielsa.
