According to reports from Paraguay, as cited by Tyc Sports, Real Madrid are monitoring Newcastle United star Miguel Almiron this summer. The 25-year-old attacking midfielder has impressed the onlookers with his consistent performances in the Premier League during the second half of the 2018/19 campaign. As a result, the European giants are now said to be keen on Almiron as they continue their spending spree this summer.
Almiron’s success in the Premier League
Almiron initially joined Newcastle United in the January transfer window earlier this year, in a €24 million move from MLS club Atlanta United. He was considered a massive gamble from Newcastle’s point of view due to his lack of experience in European football.
However, it seems like Almiron has managed to silence his critics following an extraordinary second half of the campaign last season. Although the Paraguayan international failed to be involved in a single goal for the Magpies in the ten games he played, his overall influence in the attack was far more significant as he helped the Toon survive the relegation scrap.
What can Almiron bring to the table?
Almiron is known for his ingenuity in the final third as he can not only score goals but can also create chances for his teammates. The 25-year-old has an excellent sense of positioning and can offer himself as a passing option to his teammates, which becomes very important when probing a defensively rigid opposition.
The ex-Atlanta star loves to test the ‘keeper as well, having attempted nearly two shots per game this past season. But, it’s his ability to thread in key passes in the final third which makes him such an effective attacker, with the 25-year-old averaging 1.3 key passes per game.
Should Real Madrid make a move for Almiron?
It’s probably needless to say that Almiron is an unconventional target for Real Madrid given the usual nature of their transfer activity in the market. Besides, Los Blancos have already roped in the likes of Eden Hazard and Rodrygo to shore up their attack. Additionally, they are reportedly eyeing a move for Neymar. Hence, the addition of Almiron might be redundant.
