According to Metro, Manchester United are poised to make a move for James Maddison once they complete negotiations with Crystal Palace for Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The Leicester City midfielder is believed to one of the leading midfield targets for the Red Devils this summer amid reports linking Paul Pogba with a return to Juventus.
Maddison’s remarkable season at Old Trafford
After joining Leicester City in a €25 million move from Norwich City last summer, Maddison has become a household name in the Premier League, thanks to an incredible debut campaign at the King Power Stadium.
Indeed, the English international was by far the most crucial player for Leicester, scoring seven goals and providing seven assists in 36 matches. His service in the final third was important for City especially after the departure of Riyad Mahrez last summer. It also helped the Foxes make a brilliant turnaround under Brendan Rodgers to finish ninth in the Premier League table.
What can Maddison bring to the table?
Maddison impressed the onlookers with his ability to create chances in the final third. The English international delivered the highest number of key passes in the league this past season. And that really speaks a lot about his overall chance creation ability.
But aside from that, the 22-year-old loves to take on defenders, having managed 1.4 successful dribbles per game with a success rate of 70%. He is also proficient in providing dangerous crosses into the box, with 87 of his 100 key passes coming from either crosses or corners.
Speaking of set-pieces, Maddison is a threat from direct set-pieces, and the fact that he can also move up and score goals for his team is what made him such a sought-after player in English football.
Why will Maddison be perfect for Manchester United?
As mentioned earlier, Maddison has enjoyed a remarkable season at Leicester. And it’s probably needless to say that the midfielder will be more productive with better players around him. Manchester United, in that regard, will be an ideal fit for the English international.
The Red Devils are set to undergo a new project under Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer next season, and Maddison can thus hope to become a first-team regular, especially with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial all struggling with form and injuries.
However, Leicester City will try their best to keep hold of the star midfielder. Hence, Manchester United will undoubtedly have to fork out a sizeable fee to attain the services of this highly talented playmaker this summer.
