According to a recent report by Express Sport, Manchester United are eager to secure the services of Tanguy Ndombele from Olympique Lyonnais during the summer transfer window. In a recent interview with French news outlet Le Progres (translated by the Express), the French midfielder said, “As I told my agents and the club, I’m not fixed yet, I did not make a decision.
“Of course I could see myself staying with Lyon, the club will be in the Champions League.
“But I’ve not asked the question to stay or not and I’ve not spoken with the new staff.”
Ndombele’s Brilliant Season At Lyon
The 22-year-old enjoyed a majestic campaign with Lyon after putting in some commanding displays for them during the recently concluded Ligue 1 season. The former SC Amiens talent had featured in 49 matches for Sylvinho’s side this term, finding the back of the net three times while providing eight assists in all competitions.
At such a tender age, the Longjumeau born wonderkid has represented France in four international matches so far and is destined to be a key member of Didier Deschamps’ team in the coming years. Ndombele is also versatile enough to operate in multiple roles at the middle of the pitch. He predominantly assumes the role of a box to box midfielder but is equally capable of filling in as a defensive midfielder or down the right wing.
What Does The French Youngster Bring To The Pitch?
Ndombele has decent pace and power which enables him to complete some dangerous dribbles from midfield. The French wonderkid can also open up a defence with his incredible vision and passing accuracy in the attacking third of the pitch. The Lyon star is a prospect for the future and has the potential to become a household name in European football if he can carry on improving his game on the pitch.
The acquisition of a player of Ndombele’s skillset will provide some healthy competition for players such as Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay at Old Trafford next season. The French international has proven his value in the Champions League, but he won’t be able to play in Europe’s most elite competition if he joins Man United after they missed out on a top 4 finish in the Premier League.
Can The Red Devils Pull Off The Deal?
Thus, recruiting Ndombele would be a tough ask for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but if the Norwegian manager can somehow manage to seal the deal, then the Red Devils would getting a player who has the potential to be world-class within the next few years.
