According to Birmingham Live, Liverpool are among the clubs interested in the services of Tom Bayliss. The Coventry City midfielder has been watched by a host of clubs across England and a move to the Premier League could on the horizon this summer. The report claims that Bayliss could cost somewhere around £3 million, with his current contract at Coventry City expiring at the end of 2021/22 season.
Bayliss’ rise to prominence
Bayliss is considered as one of the most talented young midfielders in the English League One, having played a key role for Coventry City since his promotion to the first team back in 2017. The youngster notably made 38 appearances in the recently concluded campaign, helping the Sky Blues achieve an impressive eighth-placed finish in the league.
He has also represented the English Under-19 setup, making two appearances. But, it is his performances in League One, which have raised quite a lot of eyebrows, of late. He has scored six goals in 38 league matches, which is quite impressive for a central midfielder.
What can Bayliss bring to the table?
Bayliss is advertised as an industrious midfielder, who is willing to work hard for his team. He has excellent stamina that allows him to cover a lot of ground as well as press the opposing midfielders. Aside from work-rate, the 20-year-old is also capable of initiating counter-attacks and pick out passes from the deep.
However, what makes the Coventry City star such a unique component in midfield is his pace. Indeed, Bayliss is a speedy central midfielder, which in itself, makes him a rare breed of midfielders. And his agility and dynamism generally add more flair in the middle of the park.
Should Liverpool make a move for Bayliss?
It’s probably needless to say that Bayliss cannot be considered as a first-team option for Liverpool even in the event of his potential arrival. But, the youngster has shown in his performance that he is ready to thrive at a higher level of football.
Liverpool, in that regard, will allow him to do just that. Furthermore, the Reds also lack reliable options in the creative midfield department and the arrival of someone like Bayliss, could thus offer Jurgen Klopp with additional options in that said position.
At the same time, however, it remains a doubt as to whether or not Bayliss will be able to replicate his performances in the Premier League given his lack of experience at the highest level of football. But, for a fee of £3 million and at the age of 20, Bayliss could be a smart long-term investment for the Merseyside giants.
