According to Tuttomercatoweb, as cited by Express, Liverpool are interested in the services of Federico Chiesa. The Fiorentina attacker has been linked with a move away from Artemio Franchi Stadium this summer, after impressing in the Serie A this past season. And it is believed that the Reds are now exploring the possibility of signing this Italian international.
Chiesa’s rapid rise in the Serie A
Following his breakthrough during the 2016/17 campaign, Chiesa has become a pivotal part of the Fiorentina attack. He has already made 100 appearances in the Italian top flight and 113 in all competitions for the Violas.
Chiesa enjoyed yet another productive campaign this past season, scoring six goals and registering seven assists. He also notched up an impressive 3,036 minutes of league football, which suggests that he was an ever-present figure in the Fiorentina attack.
Also, Chiesa ended the campaign as the club’s most productive player, having been involved in 21 goals in all competitions. Eight of his 21 goals have come in the Coppa Italia, although Fiorentina did slump to a 2-1 defeat to Atalanta in the semi-finals.
What can Chiesa offer?
A wide-attacker by trade, Chiesa is an inverted winger, who likes to cut-inside and open up both sides of the pitch. From there, he usually likes to thread in through passes and create opportunities for his team. The 21-year-old has notably averaged an impressive 1.5 key passes per game.
Chiesa is also adept in making runs in behind the defence while his composure on the ball allows him to remain calm even under tight pressure. He has completed 2.1 dribbles per game this past season.
In addition, he is gifted with the sheer pace that allows him to provide a genuine threat on the counter. But, what makes him such a sought-after talent in Europe is his productivity in front of goal as his scoring tally normally suggests.
Where does Chiesa fit in at Liverpool?
Chiesa will be a useful addition to Liverpool. The fact that the Italian international can cover both flanks means Jurgen Klopp will be able to utilise him as a back-up for Mohamed Salah as well as Sadio Mane. The 21-year-old can also be considered as a potential long-term replacement for Salah, should he depart Anfield in the near future.
However, it is unlikely Liverpool will get hold of this talented attackers, especially with Juventus and Inter Milan both interested. Juventus, in particular, are being considered as the favourites to sign Chiesa this summer, as he looks set to make the next step in his career.
