Leeds United have a big summer transfer window ahead as they need to recruit smartly to reinforce their squad for the next season. Marcelo Bielsa brought the club on the cusp of glory, but they faltered dramatically during the end phase of the season. Leeds United have been linked with quite a few players in the last few weeks, especially wingers.
Cavaleiro deemed surplus at Wolves, time for Leeds to pounce
One player which they could target again is Ivan Cavaleiro. The Sun in January reported that the club was willing to sign the Portuguese international on loan. However, nothing materialised at that point, and the winger stayed at the Molineux. Recent reports from Leeds Live suggest that Cavaleiro is set to depart from Wolves and we feel that Leeds United should use this opportunity to bring him to Elland Road.
The Whites have already been linked with Helder Costa, and this could be a dream window if they manage to get both of them to the West Yorkshire club. Cavaleiro made just six starts in the Premier League last season, and he was deemed as surplus to requirement by the club. The Portuguese though played a massive role to get Wolves to the Premier League as in the 2017-18 campaign, he made 46 appearances for them in all competitions and contributed with nine goals and 13 assists.
Wolves have shown ambition in the past year, and they are preparing for the Europa League as well. Therefore even though Cavaleiro is a decent player, he doesn’t fit into Nuno Santo’s plan anymore. It would be interesting to see whether Wolves will be willing to send him away on loan as we don’t think that Leeds United will have the financial power to sign him permanently.
Chairman Andrea Radrizzani has already hinted that the Whites will try to utilise the loan market instead of signing players permanently. The plan has worked in the past for various clubs, and Leeds United would hope that they can get some top players from the Premier League that way.
What will Cavaleiro bring at Elland Road?
The Portuguese international is known for his terrific burst of speed. He is physically strong and could be a nightmare for defenders if he is given space to utilise his pace. The 25-year-old can improve on his decision making in the final third, but he would be a massive upgrade from the wingers which the Whites had last season.
Cavaleiro is predominantly a right winger, but he can play down the left as well as lead the line. Bielsa should definitely look to sign him after he is likely to move away from the West Midlands club.
