Leed United have been linked with Helder Costa in the last few weeks, but there hasn’t been any update regarding how keen the Whites are for the Portuguese winger. However, reports from the Daily Mail claims that Leeds United are now ready to make a loan move for Costa as they are now dead sure to lose Jack Clarke to Tottenham Hotspur.
The West Yorkshire outfit were in the driving seat for the most parts last season to move to the Premier League via the automatic promotion spots. However, they managed to mess up their chance terribly in the last few months, and they even failed to make it to the playoff finals as Frank Lampard’s Derby County handed them a humbling defeat.
Nevertheless, the club has ensured that Bielsa would stay on for another season and the club needs to back the manager in the transfer market to go one step further this season. Costa played a pivotal role down the flanks for Wolves when they got promoted from the Championship to the Premier League.
However, in the English top flight, the Portuguese has struggled to get regular game time as Wolves made some ambitious signings last summer. It has been widely said that Bielsa is looking to add wingers to his squad and someone like Costa, who had a terrific time in the Championship, could provide the much-needed X-factor to this Leeds United side.
How can Costa fit in at Elland Road?
The 25-year-old is a right winger, but he can turn out on the left flank as well. The Whites usually deployed Pablo Hernandez down the right side. The Spaniard was impressive in his performances, but he often drifted inside to affect play from central areas.
He is soon going to be 34, and he doesn’t have the pace anymore to run the defenders ragged. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Hernandez play as an attacking midfielder next season. Therefore Costa can easily play in his preferred position down the right.
What will he bring to the table?
Costa is known for his terrific pace and dribbling skills, and he will always keep the opposition fullback occupied and on edge. The winger contributed with five goals and six assists in 36 Championship appearances in the 2017-18 season, and he is a proven player at this level.
Given the way, the Whites dominate their game, Costa can be highly effective in the attacking third with his direct style of play. What would satisfy Bielsa, even more, is that the Portuguese ace is known to have a reasonable work rate so he can definitely help the side in pressing from the top.
