Rangers challenged Celtic for the Premiership title last season as they were neck and neck with the Hoops on the points table until January. However, they soon tapered off in the second half of the campaign and Gerrard would now look to mount up a better challenge for the next season.
The Gers have already made inroads in the transfer market by pulling off some crucial signings. However, there is one man they desperately need and that is Ryan Kent. So much so that #AnnounceKent often ends up trending on Twitter. Gerrard has given numerous indication that he is doing everything in his means to bring in Kent, and once again he iterated the same sentiments. However, there is another crucial thing which Gerrard conveyed. He wants Ryan Kent to do something to make Rangers’ task easier of getting him again.
What does Gerrard want from Kent?
The manager was quoted as saying, ”It’s a complicated one because he is Liverpool’s player and they aren’t back yet. I’m sure Jurgen will want to see Ryan and where he’s at. We’ll go from there, and we’ll respect Liverpool. But I can assure the fans we’re doing everything we can to try to get Ryan back. The key thing that people need to understand is that Ryan has got to want this.”
”It’s all right the fans wanting him, the staff wanting him, myself wanting him. But it’s Ryan’s decision. He’s got to want Rangers; he has got to want to come and be successful at Ibrox. That is the question Ryan has got to ask himself.”
It’s clear that Gerrard is urging Kent to make noise with Liverpool that he wants a move to Ibrox. The 22-year-old has indicated before that he wants to move somewhere permanently as he is frustrated with changing clubs every season and trying to prove himself in a new setup.
Rangers are only going to get him on loan again, but he has already settled in well at Ibrox. Any news regarding Kent’s move to Glasgow is unlikely to come soon as Liverpool are likely to check out the winger in the preseasons. Therefore don’t be surprised if #AnnounceKent doesn’t officially happen until the next month or so.
Why should Kent be in favour of moving to Rangers?
The winger is also in some sort of demand in England. However, he has had previous stints in the Championship before, and he failed to establish himself there. The Liverpool man is a fan favourite at Ibrox, and he is already an established player for them after the last season.
The Englishman should definitely look to move up north once again as Gerrard can offer him regular game time and it is under the former Liverpool captain that the winger has blossomed into an exciting player. Another season at Ibrox can do him a world of good and Rangers would be hoping that Kent would want a move to Glasgow as bad as they want him back.
